Events
Through Living History displays and simulated combat tactical events, our members explore what it was like to be a German soldier during World War II. Because our activities focus on building strong friendships, our unit also hosts a number of social events for all members. These include an Annual Picnic during the summer months where family members are encouraged to attend, as well as a yearly Dinner in Uniform held in an authentic German restaurant. During our annual dinner, members are encouraged to wear their dress uniforms.
Members of Grossdeutschland participate in four different types of planned events each year. These include:
- Living History
- Tacticals
- Total Immersion
- Social Events
Living History Events
The purpose of Living History displays is to educate the general public about the daily routine, living conditions, equipment and uniforms of the combatants of the Second World War. These events are generally held at air shows, state parks, military reservations, and historic landmarks in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Tactical Events
At battle reenactments or Tacticals, members practice historically accurate small unit tactics in combat simulations that recreate the daily lives of soldiers in the field. These events are closed to the public and held on private farmland reserved for our unit’s use.
Total Immersion Events
With Total Immersion events, our members experience the living conditions and physical hardships of prolonged exposure to being on the front lines. Our unit is the first World War II reenactment group to offer Total Immersion events which have become one of the most popular events offered. Our Total Immersion events provide a 24 hour, non-stop front line experience in realistic farmland and battle worn terrain.
Social Events
Because our activities focus on building strong friendships, our unit also hosts a number of social events for all members. These include an Annual Picnic during the summer months where family members are encouraged to attend, as well as a yearly Dinner in Uniform held in an authentic German restaurant. During our annual dinner, members are encouraged to wear their dress uniforms.
