Used by the Aufklarung (reconnaissance) for their speed and size, motorcycles were used to replace horses in this role.

Many models were equipped with a sidecar allowing 3 soldiers to ride a single motorcycle. Sidecars could also be fitted with mounts for the MG34 or MG42 for added firepower. Primary manufactures of Motorrad include BMW, Zundapp, and DKW.
